Weekly Gaming Challenge #5 – I Have Nothing Witty

It’s a rather slow week.

Games Beaten:

2064: Read Only Memories – What a fantastic, wonderfully written, vibrant game.  It is well worth everyone and anyone should at least give it a try.  It’s a great adventure game, and the puzzles are not stupid obtuse or anything like the older games.  I really just want to keep gushing about this game, but I don’t even want to spoil it.

In Progress:

Pokemon Sun – I’ve technically beaten this game, but now I’m just working on completing my Pokedex, and then my living Sun Pokedex as extension of that.  I’m doing really well thus far–My living Dex is around 82%, and I’ve yet to go off and catch the Ultra Beasts or Totem Pokemon.  I am a little upset I don’t seem to have a Garchomp, though… But otherwise, it’s pretty smooth sailing.

Goals for New Week:

  • Probably try to play something.  Maybe the other two Steam games I want to play?

That about does it!  We’ll see how I do next week.

Weekly Gaming Update #3 – Porcupines Stick Each Other When They Get Too Close

This week wasn’t the most productive in terms of gaming.  Work has been stressful and as a result I really didn’t want to do much else when I got home.  I didn’t even do much freelance stuff, either.  But, that’s okay… the rest of the month is significantly better for my media consumption.  I did play a lot of Fates, though!

New Games Bought:

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)
Since I don’t own a PS2 anymore, I really wanted to get this version of one of the best Dragon Quest titles.  That said, I have already sunk over 100 hours into the PS2 version and completed it, and a throwaway extra ending is not going to get me to play it anytime soon at all, so this was a buy just for the collection, and won’t affect my backlog.

Games Beaten:

Life is Strange Episode 5: Polarized
Wow, what an ending.  I was so emotional in the end, especially because I sacrificed Chloe for the sake of the town.  The whole “is the life of one worth the life of many” trope is not exactly the most original thing or moral decision in media, but Life is Strange taking the previous four episodes and really building up the relationship between Max and Chloe, as well as the severity of your actions and the effect on the world around you.  It’s really all well done.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
You know, I had a lot of fun with this Zelda game!  I know it gets kind of a bad rap for various reasons (some of which are definitely founded, I did not like playing as Wolf Link), but I really did enjoy the majority of my time with the game.  The story was interesting enough not to just be a throwaway thing, and the dungeon designs were pretty cool, even if overall they are a bit straightforward.  Honestly I kind of want to play another Zelda game again right away, which is a bit rare for me but a good sign because I do want to catch up on the series this year as a goal (or at least the ones I own)… I still have Minish Cap, Majora’s Mask, and Skyward Sword to go!  Maybe I’ll tackle Minish Cap next…

In Progress:

Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest
Up to Chapter 18 now and its damn ninjas.  I took a bit of a break from the main story to do the little bit of grinding I could with paralogues to promote the characters I had really close to 20, and I’ll probably use the Amiibos battles and that random free Awakening DLC to grind out a little more support stuff for a few of my units.  I mean, I can’t flat out grind like I can in Birthright, but I’m not completely stuck in terms of gaining experience!  Right now my party’s kinda… eh… Effie and Silas are great (though I constantly get Silas killed), and Niles is a killing machine with this Killer Bow I yanked from Shura.  Camilla is of course also great, but she came promoted so that was no surprise.  The rest of my team is… sort of struggling.  I really want Laslow to be good, but he’s getting bad level ups, and the same with Nyx.  I finally got Mozu into a decent enough set up as an archer to finally start getting some good experience, too.  Now just to unlock more paralogues, darnit…

2064: Read Only Memories
I hadn’t actually played much of this during the week, and that was actually a really, really good thing.  A day or two ago a huge update for the game was pushed through for Steam, and an unfortunate side effect of that is that all the old save files got nuked, so I lost my progress.  However, I was only at the beginning of Chapter 2, so I only lost an hour of progress, really.  I do really like the update, though, with its voice acting and tweaked script.  Tomcat doesn’t have such a dumb reason for having an accent now, for example.  I don’t know how much was changed, but it’s been a really nice update thus far!

Goals for Next Week:

  • Maybe actually play American Nightmare.  It just fell by the wayside as my 3DS was the easiest thing to pick up this week.
  • Keep making progress through Conquest.  I’d love to beat it this week, but that’s not something I can guarantee with the difficulty ramping up.
  • Decide what RPG I want to tackle next.  So many unfinished titles to choose from!

Progress for the Year:

4 New Games | 7 Beat Games | 0 Completed Games | 0 Master Runs | 0 Replays

Next week should be a bit more interesting!
